Project Name: Construction of a Grinding Ball Manufacturing Plant in Taldykorgan
Project Description:

KAZ Minerals Group, a leading copper production company in Kazakhstan, has entered into a strategic partnership with Chilean company ME Elecmetal to construct a state-of-the-art grinding ball manufacturing plant in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan. This collaboration aims to localize the production of grinding media, which are essential components in the ore processing operations of mining enterprises.
The proposed facility is designed to produce 150,000 tons of high-quality grinding balls annually. These balls are critical in the milling processes of mining operations, aiding in the efficient grinding of extracted ores to facilitate the extraction of valuable minerals. By establishing local production capabilities, the project seeks to reduce reliance on imported grinding media, thereby enhancing the self-sufficiency and operational efficiency of Kazakhstan's mining sector.
The plant is expected to create over 100 job opportunities, contributing to the economic development of the Zhetisu region. The collaboration between KAZ Minerals and ME Elecmetal underscores a commitment to integrating advanced manufacturing technologies and expertise into Kazakhstan's industrial landscape.
Current Status:
As of March 2025, KAZ Minerals and ME Elecmetal have signed a 15-year off-take agreement in Astana, formalizing their commitment to the project. Detailed planning and preparatory activities are underway, with both parties working closely to ensure the project's successful execution.
Start Date:
The construction phase is scheduled to commence in 2025, following the completion of all necessary planning and regulatory approvals.
End Date:
The plant is anticipated to begin operations in 2028, marking the culmination of the construction and commissioning phases.
Investment Volume (in USD):
The total investment allocated for the project is approximately $85 mln.
Location:
The manufacturing plant will be situated in Taldykorgan, the administrative center of the Zhetisu region in southeastern Kazakhstan.
