Project Name: Ammonia and Urea Production Complex in Mangystau Region

Project Description:Construction of a large gas chemical plant to produce 700,000 tons of urea and 42,000 tons of ammonia annually. This project is strategically important for Kazakhstan to reduce dependency on imported fertilizers and to support national food security and agricultural development.

Current Status:The project is in pre-investment phase, with investment agreements and project documentation being finalized. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has urged authorities to accelerate the process, aiming for the investment agreement to be signed by mid-March 2025.

Start Date: Expected 2025 (exact date pending final agreements)

End Date: To be determined (expected construction period: approximately 3 years)

Investment Volume: USD 1,350,000,000 (1.35 billion)

Location: Near Kuryk Seaport, Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan

  • Expected to create 3,000 jobs during construction and 400 permanent jobs after commissioning.

  • This project supports Kazakhstan’s ambition to cover its annual fertilizer demand of 3.2 million tons (currently, only 56% is produced domestically).
