$7 bln Silleno Polyethylene Plant

Project Description:

The Silleno Polyethylene Plant is a major petrochemical project aimed at producing 1.25 million tons of polyethylene annually. Located within the Special Economic Zone "National Industrial Oil and Gas Chemical Technopark" in the Atyrau region, the plant will manufacture over 20 different grades of polyethylene for use in various industrial sectors. The initiative is expected to significantly boost Kazakhstan's manufacturing industry and reduce reliance on imported polyethylene.

Current Status:

As of March 31, 2025, the initial construction phase commenced with the driving of the first foundation piles.

  • Feedstock Supply: Ethane feedstock will be extracted at the KMG Gas Separation Complex from gas supplied by Tengizchevroil and transported to the plant via a dedicated pipeline constructed by KMG.

  • Economic Impact: The project is expected to contribute to Kazakhstan's GDP growth by 1.2%, create approximately 8,000 jobs during construction, and provide 800 permanent positions upon commencement of operations.
