Hydrogen Production Unit at Pavlodar Petrochemical Refinery (Phase 2)

Updated: 2 days ago

Project Description:

The project involves constructing a hydrogen production unit at the Pavlodar Oil Chemistry Refinery (POCR) in Kazakhstan. This facility will produce hydrogen essential for hydrotreatment processes, enabling the annual production of approximately 160,000 tonnes of winter diesel fuel. The project involves using steam reforming technology, one of the most cost-effective and widely applied methods for hydrogen production worldwide. The facility will use liquefied hydrocarbon gas, produced directly at the refinery, as its feedstock. The unit's production capacity will be 8,878 tonnes of technical hydrogen with 99.9% purity per year, while the annual feedstock consumption is expected to be 34,729.2 tonnes of butane-butylene fraction. The unit will operate 330 days per year with an adjustable capacity range of 40% to 100%.

Current Status:

As of April 2025: The project is under construction, with both companies committed to expediting its completion.
